The Four Abodes, the Brahmavihārās, are a set of noble virtues and the practices to cultivate them.

Rooted in the Buddhist and Yogic traditions, they give concrete expression to our goodwill, foster contentment and tranquility, and guide us toward benevolent and generous connection with all beings.

Each week in this four-class series, we’ll delve into one of these four qualities:

  • Loving-kindness (maitri) for self-acceptance, gratitude, forgiveness, and kinship with all beings.  
  • Compassion (karuna) for tenderness, an open-heart to suffering, and an expanded sense of our shared humanity.
  • Sympathetic joy (mudita) for enthusiasm, solidarity, and generosity
  • Equanimity (upeksha) to gain perspective, clarity, and peace of mind

Through a blend of postural practice,, breathwork, guided meditation, and reflective inquiry, you'll learn how to embody these virtues in your daily life.

Special guest Frank Jude Boccio, author of Mindfulness Yoga and founder of Empty Mountain Sangha, will join us to explore traditional Buddhist perspectives, practices, and teachings on the Four Abodes.

These classes are suitable for practitioners with at least 6 months yoga experience. To fully participate, you’ll need to be able to get up and down off the floor with the assistance of a chair and bear weight on your hands.
