Active Hope Book Club

A Special Online Summer Event!

Find grounding, inspiration, and community in overwhelming times. Hosted by Barrie Risman

Dates: Wednesdays, July 15 & August 5, 2026 | 6 - 7:30 pm ET

Active Hope was the book that helped me bridge the gap between my inner life and the state of our world. It offered me a whole new way to understand and orient to what we are collectively living through. I can't wait to explore it with you. - Barrie

Why read Active Hope with us?

  • Tools for Overwhelm: Practical ways to stay grounded when the news and the state of the world feels paralyzing.
  •  A New Framework: Learn how to translate the values we cultivate in yoga into meaningful, regenerative action on behalf of life.
  • Community Connection: A safe, welcoming space to share, listen, and find solidarity with like-minded seekers.
  • Renewal & Replenishment: Discover how to engage with the world's challenges without burning out your nervous system.

Let's explore this together — and find out what becomes possible when we bring our whole selves to meet the challenges of our time.

Logistics & How it works:
We will meet twice via Zoom. I will guide a thoughtful discussion, share key insights from the book, and offer simple reflective practices. Each session will include accessible yogic practices and exercises drawn from the Work That Reconnects.

Everyone is warmly welcome! No prior yoga experience is required.

Join one or both sessions. Replay included when you sign up.

Once you sign up, you will receive a Zoom link and further details.

This event is free. When you register, simply enter 0 in the donation field — or contribute any amount you'd like. Donations are optional and always appreciated.

What is the Work the Reconnects?

The Work That Reconnects is a form of experiential group work designed to foster the desire and ability to take part in the healing of our world.

Since its inception in the 1970’s, it has helped countless people worldwide find solidarity, inspiration, and resilience while living through the unprecedented ecological and social challenges of our time.

Developed by environmental activist, author, and Buddhist scholar Joanna Macy, the Work That Reconnects draws on systems thinking, Deep Ecology, and spiritual traditions, especially Buddhist and indigenous teachings. It is designed to nourish and strengthen our capacity, intention, and enthusiasm to act for positive change. It is for anyone who longs to serve the upliftment of our world in a more powerful, creative, and authentic way.

The Work That Reconnects helps people discover and experience their innate connections with each other and the self-healing powers of the web of life, transforming despair and overwhelm into inspired, collaborative action. – Joanna Macy
