Many of us who care deeply about the state of the world find ourselves feeling overwhelmed, helpless, or paralyzed in the face of what is happening around us. We may wonder how to stay present to it all without losing heart — or how to take meaningful action without burning out.
Active Hope by Joanna Macy and Chris Johnstone was the book that helped me bridge the gap between my inner life and the state of the world. It offered me a whole new way to understand and orient to what we are collectively living through, and a framework for taking meaningful action that feels deeply aligned with the values and inner resources we cultivate in yoga.
Let's explore this together — and find out what becomes possible when we bring our whole selves to meet the challenges of our time.

The Work That Reconnects is a form of experiential group work designed to foster the desire and ability to take part in the healing of our world.
Since its inception in the 1970’s, it has helped countless people worldwide find solidarity, inspiration, and resilience while living through the unprecedented ecological and social challenges of our time.
Developed by environmental activist, author, and Buddhist scholar Joanna Macy, the Work That Reconnects draws on systems thinking, Deep Ecology, and spiritual traditions, especially Buddhist and indigenous teachings. It is designed to nourish and strengthen our capacity, intention, and enthusiasm to act for positive change. It is for anyone who longs to serve the upliftment of our world in a more powerful, creative, and authentic way.
The Work That Reconnects helps people discover and experience their innate connections with each other and the self-healing powers of the web of life, transforming despair and overwhelm into inspired, collaborative action. – Joanna Macy
