…”like trees planted near flowing rivers”

It can be enlightening, heartening and affirming to return to the mystical wisdom from the tradition you grew up with and revisit it through the lens of your own inner experience.

In taking a fresh look at what might have once been prescribed, we uncover the power in all sacred traditions. And we recognize the universal truths and experiences of divine union that transcend custom and culture. Indeed, the truth is one, and the paths to it are many.

With this in mind, here’s a beautiful description of the auspicious state of oneness from the Hebrew book of Psalms:

Blessed are the man and the woman

who have grown beyond their greed

and have put an end to their hatred

           and no longer nourish illusions.

But they delight in the way things are

and keep their hearts open, day and night.

They are like trees planted near flowing rivers,

which bear fruit when they are ready.

Their leaves will not fall or wither.

Everything they do will succeed.

Psalm 1, translated by Stephen Mitchell, The Enlightened Heart
